Are You Interested in Making a Difference by Reviewing Grant Applications? Our Shared-Decision-Making Model
On the spectrum of community engagement, our grant review team process goes beyond just involving our community. We collaborate with you; we enable you to participate in the planning and decision-making process as members of a grant review team. We are asking you to partner with us and be a key, active, and present player to build social capital across our community.

Community foundations that actively involve community members in grant reviews are more likely to stay true to their intended impact, enhance the quality of their decision-making, and contribute significantly to fostering trust and engagement. Our review team members actively participate in shaping our community’s future and become ambassadors for our mission. This engagement extends beyond the review process, as community members feel a deeper connection to Community Foundation and our broader initiatives by becoming committee members and, sometimes, board members!

“I’ve been a member of the Library Grant Cycle Review Team for multiple years. I continue to be energized by the Community Foundation’s approach to community-based decision making. My experience of working with a team of volunteers who expressed a deep concern for the Tompkins County community and the challenges that local libraries face in serving youth was refreshing. While we had differences of opinion, they were expressed in a respectful manner and everyone was heard. It’s great to be a part of a process that continues to result in wonderful things for the community. The Community Foundation succeeds in creating an inclusive, respectful environment that ultimately results in better decisions and better results for the people served by its grantmaking. It’s a great representation of our community and one of the many reasons I love Tompkins County.”  Review Team Member, March 2016

quote Community Foundation Donor Advisor

We just started with, ‘Oh, this is something we want to support.” The Foundation took it from there. “You may have an idea of something you want to do, but then the Community Foundation helped make…a connection, helped make you aware of something else.
