Let’s Talk: Community Building for Maternal Resilience with Yael Daphna Saar, Founder, Mama’s Comfort Camp
Join our guest, Yael Saar, Founder, Mama’s Comfort Camp online peer support network, for a 30-minute conversation on how a lovingly moderated online forum can strengthen the fabric of our community. The Mama’s Comfort Camp support network (a nonprofit project of the Center for Transformative Action) is celebrating a decade of support for mothers experiencing a wide array of parenting challenges, including guilt, shame, anxiety—the leading causes of postpartum depression/maternal suicide. This group normalizes the struggles of parenting and facilitate the asking (and receiving) of help, serving thousands of mothers in FREE lifesaving moderated “Safe Spaces” available 24/7/365. Mothers are the demographic most burdened by the pandemic, which has made online communications essential for community connection, crisis prevention, and resource-sharing. They hold their finger on the pulse of our community and bring attention to a diverse array of community needs expressed by the thousands of Tompkins County mothers in their forums and have become an essential support structure in our community. You will have an opportunity to ask questions and learn how the principles of this unique support network can be applied in other settings.
