July Site Visit: Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins & Cortland Counties

Location
Habitat for Humanity of Tompkins & Cortland Counties
17 Aurora Street South
Ithaca, NY 14850

We are visiting Habitat for Humanity! This is a one-time special and unique opportunity to check out a current build site. Not only is this a chance to visit, but you can also volunteer your time at the site. By providing affordable homeownership opportunities, fostering community development, empowering families, promoting volunteerism, and embracing environmental sustainability, Habitat for Humanity continues to make a positive and lasting impact in communities around the world.

Habitat for Humanity Tompkins & Cortland Counties plays a crucial role in our community by addressing the critical need for safe, affordable housing. Habitat for Humanity’s projects contribute to the overall development and revitalization of our  communities. By building and renovating homes, the organization helps improve neighborhoods, increasing property values, and fostering a sense of pride and belonging among residents. This is a community event and open to all.

Site visits are an important part of our community engagement strategy and are a chance to connect with the people who are doing great work on the ground. It’s also a chance to see firsthand the staff’s enthusiasm for their mission, their commitment to it, and their hopes for the future. Our goal is to create an experience of co-discovery from engagement and dialogue during the visit. Our goals are to:

· Build trust and strengthen relationships
· Explore shared interest areas, share knowledge and identify possible new ways of working together to serve common goals
· Gain information beyond what is obtained from a written report

As a funder, we acknowledge and point out the power imbalance and we’ve made the promise to be guided by mutual respect, appreciation, and trust; approach each interaction as a partnership rather than a top-down relationship; and be a partner and ally. View our Site Visit Guidelines HERE.
