Join us for our August Site Visit to O.A.R.

Location
Opportunities, Alternatives, & Resources
230 S Fulton St.
Ithaca, NY 14850

The Opportunities, Alternatives, and Resources (OAR) program in Tompkins County serves as a beacon of hope and support for individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system. Established with the aim of reducing recidivism and promoting successful reintegration into society, OAR offers a range of services and programs tailored to the unique needs of participants. Central to the OAR philosophy is the principles of restorative justice, which emphasizes accountability, healing, and community involvement in the resolution of conflicts and harm.

Join us in our site visit to learn about how OAR facilitates restorative justice processes, such as victim-offender dialogues and circle discussions, that bring together those affected by crime to address the harm caused, repair relationships, and promote reconciliation. We hope you can join us on this site visit! This is a community event and open to all.

Site visits are an important part of our community engagement strategy and are a chance to connect with the people who are doing great work on the ground. It’s also a chance to see firsthand the staff’s enthusiasm for their mission, their commitment to it, and their hopes for the future. Our goal is to create an experience of co-discovery from engagement and dialogue during the visit. Our goals are to:

· Build trust and strengthen relationships
· Explore shared interest areas, share knowledge and identify possible new ways of working together to serve common goals
· Gain information beyond what is obtained from a written report

As a funder, we acknowledge and point out the power imbalance and we’ve made the promise to be guided by mutual respect, appreciation, and trust; approach each interaction as a partnership rather than a top-down relationship; and be a partner and ally. View our Site Visit Guidelines HERE.

If you are interested in either scheduling a site visit with us or joining us on an already-scheduled site visit, email Gloria at gcoicou@cftompkins.org.
