August is National Make-A-Will Month
Most people spend August doing back to school shopping, at the grill or hitting the beach. However, August is also “National Make a Will” month and represents an incredible opportunity for you to increase your support to your favorite nonprofits.
The easiest planned gift is to leave a portion of your estate to your favorite organization. You can help Tompkins County with a gift through your will or trust by naming the Community Foundation as a beneficiary of an IRA, charitable gift annuity, life insurance policy or other assets. You can make a generous gift that will cost you nothing during your lifetime. A gift of 1% of your total estate can have a huge impact for our future (The average planned gift in the United States is between $35,000 and $70,000.)
Most people draw their will around a major life event like getting married or having a child – but forget to update it as their life progresses. Did you have children, grandchildren, deaths or divorce? These are just some of the life events that can change your will’s original intent.
Would you name the Community Foundation in your will? If so you will join our Legacy Society. Your legacy gift reflects your values and commitment to providing for our community’s needs.
If you would like more information on how to include the Community Foundation in your estate plans, please email Chief Development Officer, Nancy Massicci or click here for more information. We often speak with donors attorneys so that’s an option too.
