Celebrating Black History Month: Honoring Black Philanthropy and Voices
Black History Month is a time to reflect on and celebrate the incredible contributions of Black individuals and communities throughout history. It’s also a moment to recognize our ongoing progress toward a more equitable future. This year, as we celebrate, we’re reminded of how important it is to amplify Black voices and shine a light on Black philanthropy, especially as we navigate the evolving social and political landscape.
For generations, Black philanthropy has been a foundation of resilience, community care, and growth within the Black community. Rooted in traditions of mutual aid and collective support, it goes beyond financial giving to include time, talent, and leadership. From trailblazers like Madam C.J. Walker and Booker T. Washington to today’s changemakers, Black philanthropy has been a driving force for empowerment and systemic change.
At our foundation, we draw inspiration from these traditions and remain committed to supporting Black philanthropic efforts that create lasting change in education, economic opportunity, and social justice. Right now, the political climate poses significant challenges to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) efforts across the country. Laws and rhetoric aimed at limiting conversations about race, history, and identity risk silencing the very voices that need to be heard most. That’s why it’s more important than ever to uplift and celebrate Black voices that advocate for justice, equity, and progress.
We stand firm in our commitment to DEI. We see Black History Month not just as a time to celebrate, but as a call to action—a chance to learn, grow, and honor the stories and contributions of Black individuals. Even in the face of opposition, we remain steadfast in our dedication to these values.
Join Us in Celebrating Black History Month
We invite you to celebrate Black History Month by:
• Learning: Take time to explore the stories of Black leaders, philanthropists, and changemakers who’ve shaped our world.
• Giving: Support our Social Justice Fund. Support Black-led organizations and initiatives that promote justice and equity. See Business Leaders of Colors Directory. This is not an exhaustive list.
• Advocating: Speak out against inequities and champion the values of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
To celebrate Black History Month, we chose to celebrate the young, black, and dope leaders of tomorrow. Leaders who have hit the ground running straight out of college. You know them as colleagues and friends, but they are more than that. They are champions, changemakers, and culture creators. They are our leaders of tomorrow…our future Cal Walkers, Ken Clarkes, and Schelley Michell-Nunns. They are Jessica Brock, Courtney Owens, and Omar Stoute.
Join us Tuesday, February 11th at 12pm for a special edition of Let’s Talk, To Be Young, Black, & Dope. We’ll connect, codiscover, and colearn in a safe space. REGISTER HERE.
