Our Visit to Women’s Opportunity Center

We had a fantastic time visiting the Women’s Opportunity Center (WOC) alongside community members, our board members, and committee members. We were warmly welcomed by their staff and fearless leader, Jan Bridgeford-Smith, with sweet treats and warm drinks on that chilly morning. Jan is best known for her unwavering commitment to serving our community and empowering women, not to mention her great sense of fashion. We had the opportunity to observe the center’s impactful work and their steadfast commitment to serving the whole person.

The WOC is a great example of a comprehensive approach to empowering women, meeting not only their immediate needs but also supporting their long-term success. Their mission centers on fostering self-sufficiency, confidence, and independence among women in our community. During our visit, we were taken through the many programs they offer and I was especially impressed with their Ready? Set? Dream! Program which helps women create a solid business plan from beginning to end. It’s a 13-week program that tackles subject like strategic planning and financial management, to help women prepare for entrepreneurship.

The center’s work is driven by a team of passionate and highly committed professionals. Throughout the visit, it was clear that the staff go above and beyond to provide personalized support to every woman who walks through their doors. Their genuine care and tireless efforts are a testament to their belief in the transformative power of empowerment.

One of the standout features of the center is their clothing closet, which provides professional attire for women preparing for job interviews. This resource is an invaluable asset for clients, removing barriers to employment and instilling confidence in their professional journeys. The staff’s attention to detail in curating high-quality, appropriate clothing reflects their understanding of how essential first impressions are during the job search process. They also have their amazing boutique which offers high-end clothing for sale, with nothing more than $20. Proceeds go to the center’s programming.

Here is what a couple visitors had to say:
